Rangitoto at sunset

Devonport is a charming historic seaside village, a 10 minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland and a shuttle bus ride from Auckland airport. From the city it is a 20 minute drive over the Harbour Bridge.

This unique marine village offers an array of beautifully restored 19th century villas and other architecture, quaint village shops, art galleries, museums, trendy cafes and good seaside restaurants. From our gate you may wander onto Cheltenham Beach for a refreshing swim before a walk to the summit of North Head where you may explore the underground tunnels, chambers and gun emplacements erected in 1885 to defend Auckland from invasion.

Around Devonport there are many lovely parks, interesting walks and other beaches to explore. It is a pleasant flat area for cycling with several (extinct) volcanoes from which to enjoy spectacular views of the harbour and Auckland City.

Enjoy a glass of wine on the beach at sunset and an early evening swim, before an easy stroll along the esplanade to Devonport village for a great selection of good local restaurants.

Auckland's Waitemata Harbour is one of the most beautiful in the world and is always busy with yachts, wind surfing, kayaking, charter boats and other sea craft. There are many harbour cruises or day visits to enjoy from Devonport wharf. Boats leave daily for Waiheke Island, Rangitoto Island and other beautiful islands of the Hauraki Gulf.
